Building Lore Around A Song

I really believe this song is talking about forming a relationship with someone you meet online, who ends up ghosting. I might be reading into it, but my experience of chatting with people in old AOL, Yahoo, and especially IRC chat rooms gets pinged pretty hard at some of these lines.
